Where Wind Meets Willpower
Aruba Honors Sarah-Quita Offringa with a Beach That Tells Her Story
At the northern edge of Aruba’s golden coast, where wind and water meet in graceful dance, a new name now whispers across the waves—Sarah-Quita Beach. This sun-kissed shoreline, once simply known as part of Fisherman’s Huts, now carries the name of a woman whose spirit, strength, and story have left an indelible mark on Aruba—and the world.
A Local Legend and Global Champion
Born and raised on the island, Sarah-Quita Offringa is more than just a world-class athlete. She is Aruba’s pride, a 26-time world champion windsurfer, and an ambassador of perseverance and joy. Her journey began right here, on this very beach, learning to harness the power of the Caribbean trade winds.
“After that I decided to give it another try… I have been hooked on windsurfing ever since.”
It wasn’t easy at first. As a young girl stepping into a sport dominated by men, she had to carve out her space on the water. But her talent, discipline, and unmistakable smile quickly captured the attention of the global windsurfing community. By age 19, she had already claimed her first world title—and she never looked back.
Her most recent title—World Title #26, claimed in Fuerteventura, July 2025—came after an intense and dynamic Slalom X competition. Sarah-Quita shared on social media:
“Extremely challenging event, different conditions everyday and a high level across the women’s fleet 🔥 … Looking back it was epic being out there with everyone and I’m glad I stuck with it. Because in the end I love all aspects of windsurfing!”

A Beach Reborn: Sarah-Quita Beach
In a heartfelt ceremony during the Aruba Hi-Winds 2025 competition, the Aruban government officially renamed a stretch of the iconic Fisherman’s Huts to Sarah-Quita Beach. The announcement was met with tears, laughter, and the rustle of sails in the background—an ode to the very place where her legacy was born.
Prime Minister Mike Eman shared these words:
“Let Sarah-Quita Beach serve as a reminder that your dream can begin right here.”
ATA CEO Ronella Croes added:
“Her name evokes images of wind-blown hair, sparkling beaches, and crystal-clear waters.”
The beach is now more than a destination—it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and local pride.

The Fisherman’s Huts: Where Windsurfing Dreams Begin
Locally known as Hadicurari Beach, this stretch of coast has long been a mecca for windsurfing in Aruba. With steady trade winds and shallow waters, it’s an ideal spot for both beginners and pros. Once used by fishermen, the beach now serves as a playground for thrill-seekers and wave riders. Sarah-Quita herself learned to sail these waters.
Why Aruba Is a Windsurfing Paradise
With its year-round sunshine, turquoise waters, and reliable cross-shore winds, Aruba is considered one of the best places in the world for windsurfing. The Aruba Hi-Winds tournament draws global talent every year.
Whether you’re an experienced surfer or a curious beginner, Sarah-Quita Beach offers a welcoming space to learn, explore, and feel the wind at your back.
